We all tell ourselves stories about how we spend our time. Let's get honest people!
What stories are you telling yourself?

Ya, Ya… I’m a girl of the 80’s.

I watched Days of Our Lives every day after High School.

Perfect timing KSL.

And then again when my first two babies were little…

Until I put a stop to that time wasting crap!!

Seriously???

I got one hour to myself when my baby was napping and I was choosing to watch a stupid soap opera that never went anywhere?  Truly, nowhere.  I stopped watching it for a few years between High School and having my babies and it took no time at all to be completely caught up.  That was about 8 years of missing content and I missed nothing???

That’s a big waste of time my friends.

We’ve all done stuff like this.

Maybe your guilty pleasure is Instagram.

Maybe it’s something else.

It’s still a waste of time if we lose hours and don’t know where they went.

You must know where your time goes in order to stop the ticking from speeding up.

You must know where your time goes in order to stop the ticking from speeding up.

You Get to Decide.

You are capable of making informed choices on how you spend your time.

Freedom from time comes from being disciplined with your time

Structure your life in such a way that you can focus on what YOU’VE decided is important.

Time is a Precious Resource that is NOT Renewable

Think of your time as a resource.  Then, use your resource in pursuit of the return on investment you desire.

Did you know that people who think they have less time spend more time on social media and TV than those who feel they have lots of time???

“Mindfulness gives you time.  Time gives you choices.  Choices, skillfully made, lead to freedom.”

Bhante Henepola Gunaratana

We all tell ourselves stories about how we spend our time.  We think our days are full of work when if we were to really look at it, we would be shocked at how much time we waste away.  No one needs to be busy all day, every day, but we need to take an honest look at how we spend our time.

Precious Resource

Time is precious.

Do we treat it that way?

Does looking at someone else’s life on Instagram or Facebook really count as living?  How much did it distract from what we’re supposed to be doing?

Is it more important than looking your child directly in the eyes?

Will it move your dream closer to being reached?

How long does it take to get back in the “zone” when you take “just 5 minutes” to check your email?  From what I’ve read, it’s at least 20 minutes.  Multiply that by how many times you check email, Instagram or Facebook a day.

It’s kinda like a punch in the gut.

Distractions are killing all of our goals.  I’m actually getting sick of it.  I don’t like how it feels when I come back to reality and realize how much time has passed.

I know what my priorities are.  Did I just make choices that were aligned with my priorities?

Now, I’m not a robot.  I know that I can’t be “ON” all day every day.  But knowing that, I need to allow for that in my day as well.  Again, being aware of how I use my time, I can make time for all the things that I want.  That’s the most empowering thing about this.

WE CAN MAKE TIME FOR WHATEVER WE WANT.

You can make excuses all you want, but if you’re honest with yourself, as I’m trying to be with myself, wasted time doesn’t count as being too busy to do that one thing you said you couldn’t do.  If it’s not on your priority list, then, own up to that.  You’ve decided what’s most important and that doesn’t fit in there.  That empowering, not soul draining like wasting time is.

Time passes whether or not we think about how we are spending it.  I don’t know about you, but I want to be aware.  I don’t want sand passing through my hourglass without me enjoying it and choosing how I spend it.  Who’s with me??

Where Is Time Going?

Once you know where your time is going, it starts getting easier to ask yourself where you’d like it to go and to begin creating the life that you want.  It’s this vision of your life and how you want to spend your time, and then making the changes and evaluating how it’s going, that will truly help you make better use of your time.

“Time is nothing but a feeling.  If you want more time, you simply need to manage your feelings.”

Tony Robbins

I don’t have time vs. It’s not a priority

I’ve created a short guide to help walk you through finding your top priorities, then planning with those priorities in mind.  If you’re interested, it’s free and you can find it HERE.
