Ep 173: It’s Time to Begin

Three years into this podcast and guess what the #1 topic has been?

Journaling.

That’s not a mistake.

Journaling continues to be the #1 tool my clients use to become overburdened no more by what has kept them down for years of their life.

It’s time you start journaling too.

Journaling is a free flow of thoughts that are spinning in your brain and moving them through a pen and onto a piece of paper.

That’s it.

Take what’s spinning in your head and put it down on paper.

Journaling in this way frees your mind from the thoughts that clog up your mental and emotional health from healing.

When you get it out of your brain, it creates room for your spirit, the person who knows you better than anyone else, to show up and help you see a solution that was lost in the spinning of the problem.

And I want you to try it.

Here are three simple tips to help you start.

It’s time my friend!!

#1: Start Small
Write for 5 minutes.

Don’t think you have to write for 30 minutes or more to have it do any good.

That’s just keeping you from starting.

Just write for 5 minutes.

See what happens.

If you decide you want to write longer, do that, but not because you have too.

#2: Choose How Often You Will Do It.
Do you want to start by writing three times a week?

Do that.

So what if I say to do it every day?  If that’s too much for you, don’t do it.

Start with what feels doable to you, then commit to doing that.

#3: Let It Be Ok to Write Anything
Who says you should only write about hard things?

What if what’s swirling in your head is plans for your daughter’s birthday party?

Write about that!

If you sit down to write and the thing that is on your mind is cleaning the bathroom, write about that and why you haven’t done it yet.

Stop believing that there is a “right” way to journal.

Whatever you write is the right way.

The bottom line is, keep showing up when you said you would, and your brain will get ready to unload whatever it need to.  It wants to solve the problem that is swirling in there.  That’s your brains job.

Stop making up excuses NOT to journal.

Once you experience the power of it, you will CRAVE it in your routine.

Maybe you’ll become obsessed like me and journal 6 days a week for 30 or more minutes each time.

Maybe you’ll get everything you need from it from 5 minutes three times a week.

Just start.

See what works and then don’t talk yourself out of it.

Then let me know what you learned!
