In episode 169 we discussed the intelligences that make you DO what you feel your PURPOSE is. The 4 intelligences are:
Spiritual INTELLIGENCE: gives you direction from your purpose
Emotional INTELLIGENCE: the energy that drives you. Managing the energy keeps it steady. You don’t want the fire to go out.
Mental INTELLIGENCE: the one that controls the destination, controls the energy.
Physical INTELLIGENCE: when you actually do what you feel your purpose is
Since time is your biggest asset, the question is, what are you going to DO with your time?
How do you get yourself to use your 4 intelligences to DO what you choose?
How consistent are you in your daily priorities?
Where do you get the motivation to NOT procrastinate?
The truth is, it’s not about the results you get.
Even more important than results, is the way you choose to use your time working towards what YOU want to create in your life.
It’s who you become as you work towards your goals.
It’s about becoming the master over yourself and how you choose to use your time.
It’s your personal development that matters.
One of the biggest mind tricks that you must become aware of is comparing yourself with where you were, not against where someone else is.
When you’re able to do this, then your only job is to keep doing the consistent activities that move you towards your purpose.
These are the small, daily tasks that cultivate who you want to become.
One of my favorite quotes is from Richard G. Scott. He said:
“We become who we want to become by consistently being who we want to become each day.”
It’s in the daily, consistent practices that move you toward who you want to become.
It’s keeping your commitment to yourself.
When you keep doing the commitments you’ve made to yourself EVERY day, and that is a powerful way to get a hit of dopamine, which is the chemical in your brain that can create addiction when not chosen mindfully.
It’s also the chemical we talked about in episodes 164-168 that keeps you wanting to look at your phone when trying to do these types of consistent actions.
Dopamine, when used in a positive way, helps your motivation to increase and adds to your passion you’ve chosen in your life.
It helps you to continue creating more energy!
When you DON’T do what you say you’re going to do, your motivation decreases, and that’s one of the things that creates anxiety and depression.
It’s the DOING that gets you where you want to go and that takes care of all 4 of your intelligences.
It’s the consistent action that gets you where you want to go, to who you want to become.
The most successful people are the most consistent people. That’s it.
Don’t get fooled by the lies that they are just luckier or wealthier or any of the other lies your brain wants to give you as excuses why you haven’t done what you said you’d do.
Try shifting your focus on the action, instead of the result.
It’s more than just getting something done that contributes to success.
Be honest with yourself.
How consistent are your actions?
What is something that you feel passionate about doing?
Hit pause and think about that.
What do you want to DO?
Now, what is an action that you need to be doing that will make you better at this passion of yours?
I like the example of the comedian Jerry Seinfeld.
People ask him how he got so good at telling jokes.
His simple answer is that he works at writing jokes EVERY day.
It’s not that he was just born a funnier person that instinctively knew how to tell great jokes. He made it a daily practice.
He chooses to work at it EVERY DAY.
Don’t let your brain tell you that others are good at what they do without having to do the work.
My guess is that’s not true 99.9% of the time.
If you want to get good at something, use your time to get progressively better at it.
I’m not good at sewing because I was born knowing how to do it.
My skills only improved because I was willing to be BAD at it in the beginning.
I made lots of really crappy Travelers Notebooks and inserts before I was able to make the ones I began selling online.
I also made some really badly fitting clothes before I was able to alter wedding dresses that women trusted me to work on for them.
You have to be willing to put in the work no matter what your passion is.
I am willing to work at being a better Hope Coach every day.
I will continue to listen to and talk to people and learn skills that help myself and others to feel more hope in their lives.
One way I do that is by having conversations with people like you.
I’d love to have a conversation with you.
I call these types of conversations, connecting conversations.
We don’t just talk about fluff.
Come have a connecting conversation with me and I will guarantee that you will leave with at least one uplifting skill you can incorporate into your life.
I can only guarantee that because I’ve practiced this a lot!
And I’m not done practicing.
Let me know you’d like to connect with me by sending me an email at Marla@hunkeedori.com and we’ll set up a time to talk.
