We are living in a world of overload.
There is too much information coming at us from all directions, all the time.
In my opinion, overthinking is overloading the capacity of our society right now.
I did episodes way back in the first year of my podcast about overthinking. If you’d like to go back and listen to those and get a bit more support exclusively on what overthinking does, go listen to episodes 41, 47 & 52.
Some of the thing’s overthinking does are:
It locks our minds.
It keeps us from living up to our potential and
Keeps us from achieving what we really want.
Doesn’t make overthinking sound very appealing, does it?
That’s what today’s episode is here to help with.
I hope to help you get your mind more focused and directed to the things you really want to have happen. To put your mind in a place of action instead of reaction and to help you stop the endless overthinking you experience so you can get to a place of peace.
We have 4 main intelligences that make up who we are.
Truth be told, I believe there’s one more as well, but I’m not going to discuss that one today.
Stay tuned for more on the Social Intelligence part of our brain.
Let’s break down the 4 intelligences we’ll talk about in this episode:
We have:
A Spiritual Intelligence, and by this I’m not talking religion, the spiritual intelligence is something that gives you purpose in life and a sense of significance.
There’s also:
Emotional
Mental and
Physical intelligence
When you use just one of the 4 Intelligences, it makes harder work for yourself and can be devastating to your overall well-being.
Let’s talk just a bit about each one so you know the big picture before we dive in deeper to each one.
Let’s start with the Physical Intelligence: some people just live here. They are all in their bodies, just trying to physically make it through life. But what happens when you age and you start to lose that degree of physicality? What happens when you lose a sense of control over your physical abilities? This can happen at any age. Anxiety goes up. A loss of control outside of yourself is what contributes to anxiety. There are people who use their looks to help them make sense of the world.
Next is our Mental Intelligence: Those who are more in their mental intelligence feel smarter than most. They try to make sense of this world by being more intelligent than others. That’s their way of trying to gain control over this life. Again, a loss of control is where we experience anxiety.
Emotional Intelligence: Emotion is energy. Those that try to live in the emotional intelligence only try to make sense of the world by bringing more energy than others. This is how they try to bring more control into their lives.
And finally, the Spiritual Intelligence: This group tries to find importance in the world by being more spiritual than others. But if that’s the only way they are focusing on the world, how does one make a living this way? You have to DO something.
So, why are we learning about the 4 intelligences?
Remember that this podcast is called Overburdened No More. Being able to recognize and acknowledge how you are currently living helps you decide if you want to make a change. Small changes over time create a life that you choose. That takes away the burden that makes you feel overwhelmed and out of control.
The key to living your best life is knowing that it’s not just one thing that makes you great, you need all 4 of these aspects of your intelligence.
As I describe the purpose of each of the 4 intelligences, do a little evaluation of where you’re at and where you’d like to make a change. Just become aware right now.
Don’t try to eat the whole elephant at once.
Small changes over time, remember?
See what stands out to you and then take it from there.
SPIRITUAL INTELLIGENCE
You need spiritual intelligence because that’s where you find your purpose.
It’s also known as your conscience or a moral compass. It’s what gives you personal direction.
It’s learning to trust yourself and making decisions about what YOU really want without the outside influence of others.
This is the belief in yourself that we’ve talked a lot about here on the podcast.
Learning to believe in yourself and coming to what your purpose is and not trying to do what everyone else is doing.
If you want to live YOUR life, then you must live YOUR goals.
If your purpose to be someone else, then go ahead and keep living according to their goals. But that doesn’t usually end up working very well, or at least not for very long!
In my Camp Connection program, I teach you how to set your own compass in the direction YOU want to go, every single morning and evening.
I teach you how to do that with alignment of your own values and goals.
And here’s the best part is, it doesn’t take very long to do that every day, usually less than ten minutes, but it changes everything.
If you’d like to enroll in Camp Connection, I teach that in a few different ways.
- Through an email course, go to Hunkeedori.com/camp to get it
- At my home
- On Zoom
- At your home. And here’s the new announcement,
- You can take Camp Connection in an Ebook. I just finished this so if you’d like to be one of my testers for the book, email me @ marla@hunkeedori.com and I’ll send it to you for free. All I ask is for you to send me your feedback. Let me know where I did well and where I need to fix it. I’d really appreciate your help!
Our next intelligence is EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE
When you’ve found your purpose through connecting to your Spiritual Intelligence, you take that energy and begin to connect to your Emotional Intelligence.
Emotions cause motion; they provide a motive that drives your action.
Look at the words emotion, motion, and motivation… they all include a form of the Latin word movere which means ‘to move’.
If we lack emotion, we aspire to nothing and we remain indifferent.
Emotion is energy and we need energy to move us towards what we want.
If you don’t have passion for what you want to do, be real, it’s never going to happen. That ended when you became the grown-up and didn’t have another grown-up telling you what to do.
No energy is a “flat-line” and that means you’re dead.
For example:
What happens if you walk out of your house with no direction on where you want to go? What do you do?
Without a purpose or a direction, you’ll end right back where you started, guaranteed.
Passion comes from purpose.
Without purpose, you’re not motivated and the energy will run out.
It’s a vicious cycle if all of the 4 intelligences aren’t being used.
Let’s learn about what the next intelligence will do for you.
MENTAL INTELLIGENCE
Mental Intelligence is what drives you. This is NOT IQ.
I opted out of having my IQ tested in High School and I have never once been sorry.
Even back when I was a teenager, I knew that it wouldn’t be a helpful number for me.
Have I ever been a little curious to know what my # was? Sure. But more than that, I’m grateful that I get to choose the measure of my own mental intelligence.
Did you know that research actually shows that the higher your IQ, the lower performing you become? Mental intelligence is more than just book smarts. Mental intelligence is HOW you use your mind. Not just the ability to store information but if you can actually apply it.
I’ve watched quite a few people with very high IQ scores spin and spin on how to simply organize a room or change a flat tire.
The last intelligence we’ll talk about today is:
PHYSICAL INTELLIGENCE
All of the other 3 intelligences are there for you so you can physically do something and that’s what really matters in life.
When you get distracted by any of the other 3 intelligences, you don’t really engage in your life.
You avoid what needs to be done and wait for someone else to make it happen.
The real key to feeling successful in your life comes from ‘doing’ something.
Let’s recap:
Spiritual INTELLIGENCE gives you direction from your purpose
Emotional INTELLIGENCE is the energy that drives you. Managing the energy keeps it steady. You don’t want the fire to go out.
Mental INTELLIGENCE is the one that controls the destination, controls the energy.
Physical INTELLIGENCE is when you actually do what you feel your purpose is.
Next week we’re going to talk about what to DO with what we learned today.
We’ll jump into some skills that will help you to apply your intelligences into doing what you feel your purpose is.
Take some time this week to think about how each of the 4 intelligences show up in your normal life.
Where do you see your emotions MOVING you to DO something?
How have you felt direction from your spiritual intelligence?
Do you spend time adding to your mental intelligence and learn things that are of interest to you?
Try to pay attention to what you do physically because of the other intelligences working together.
Really pay attention.
Take time to think through each one.
You could even decide what you want to have happen and work backwards and decide how you’ll use each intelligence to help you reach the goal.
Until then:
Thanks for joining me here today and remember:
I see you. I understand how hard you’re trying, and I’d like to help however I can.
Have a wonderful day and I’ll see you back here again very soon.
