056: Your Life is a Story

In episode 55, we talked about loving yourself more through telling your story with the intention of giving yourself more love and compassion because you understand what you’ve been through.

What if we took that to a next step?

What if you started to “choose” what your story looks like?

Actually making decisions on HOW you want your story to play out.

Obviously, if you’re listening to this podcast, your story isn’t over.

You are still adding chapters.

Cool thought huh!?

When you’re reading a book, each chapter doesn’t come to a conclusion, but it leads you to the next chapter.  Each chapter continually building upon the next.

Even the ending of a book can leave you wondering what happens next.

Life is like that.

Are you making conscious choices that lead to the life that YOU want?

You get to do that.

Yes.  You do!

We all have choices. 

While you can’t choose every road your life takes you on, you do get to choose how you react to it.  But that’s a whole other episode.

But, if you really think about it, you get more choices in your life than you realize sometimes.

How are you using that ability?

It comes down to the question of what matters most to you.  That’s where knowing your priorities is so important.  Connecting to your TIME.

If you know where you want to go, you get to choose how you spend the amount of time you have to get there.  Connecting to your LIFE.

Not only will you get to where you’re going, you enjoy the trip more when you choose your route and you’ll remember more of what you did.

What if you choose to spend your time mindless scrolling and looking at other people’s lives?

Does that get you closer to where you want to go?

Does it feel like a very fun trip?

Compare that to making choices about how to spend your time.

What’s something you’ve always wanted to do?

What small step could you take today to make that happen?

Does that get you closer to where you want to go?

Does it leave you feeling drained or excited?

No one wants to read a dull book!

No one wants to lead a dull life!

Start LIVING your life my friend!

Make the hard choices that actually move you forward.

They won’t seem so hard once you get going.

Let’s take this one step further from thinking about it to taking action.

When we share how we’re living our life by documenting it…you know, writing down the chapters… it stops the feeling of it going by so quickly. 
Really.  You should try it.  It works!

I’m going to leave you with a challenge:

Write down something that happened to you during each of the next 7 days.

Do it every night.

Write it down in a notebook.  Take 10 minutes or less to do that.

Add a sticker if that’s something you like to do.  Take a picture and add that. 

But you don’t have to.

Write down something that you really don’t want to forget. 

Because.  You will.

And even if you don’t forget everything, you will forget a lot of the details.

Life feels different when we know we’re going to write down what we’re doing.

We’ll want to make it worth writing down.

It really does help, I promise.
